Guided Every Step: The Art of Posing in Boudoir
One of the most common things I hear from women before their session is…
“I’m going to look awkward.”
“I’m not photogenic.”
“I don’t know how to pose.”
And I completely understand why.
We’re not taught how to pose. Most of us only ever see the final, polished images—never the process behind them. What you don’t see is that posing is intentional, guided, and often feels very different than how it looks in the final image.
That’s where I come in.
You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose — That’s My Job
From the moment you walk into the studio, you are never left wondering what to do.
I guide you through your entire session—from your head to your hands, your body, and even down to your toes. Every detail is considered, adjusted, and refined so that you don’t have to think about it.
I’ll demonstrate poses for you, guide you with simple verbal cues to help you soften and shift naturally, and occasionally (always with your permission) make small adjustments to things like your hair, hands, or wardrobe.
This is a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable space.
You don’t need to perform. You’re simply guided through it.
Why Posing Can Feel a Little Unnatural
Here’s something most people don’t realize…
The way a pose feels is not the same as how it looks.
Some poses can feel unfamiliar—or even slightly uncomfortable—but they photograph in a way that is incredibly flattering and beautifully intentional. I’m guiding you to elongate your body, create curves and angles, and place your hands in a way that feels natural within the pose.
That slight “this feels different” moment is often where the magic happens.
Structured Posing & Natural Flow
I typically start with a structured pose to give you a strong foundation. From there, we make small adjustments and allow you to settle into the pose naturally—a slight shift of your hip, a change in your gaze, softening your hands, or giving them a simple, natural action.
As I guide you through this, I’m also photographing continuously, capturing those beautiful in-between moments where everything starts to feel more natural. Those are often the images clients fall in love with most.
This combination of structure and flow is what makes your images feel both polished and real.
Every Detail Matters
Each part of your body plays a role in the final image—but don’t worry, I’m guiding you through all of it.
We’ll play with expression—eyes open and closed, a soft gaze, a subtle smile, or a gently parted mouth. Small changes here can completely shift the mood of an image.
Your hands matter more than you think. We want to avoid stiffness or overly spread fingers, so I guide you to keep them soft or give them a purpose—lightly touching your body, your hair, or your outfit.
Through your body, I’m creating shape—soft curves, S-lines, and triangles with your arms and legs—to flatter you and bring balance to the image.
And yes, even your feet matter. I’ll guide you to keep them pointed and relaxed to help elongate your body and keep everything looking cohesive and intentional.
Every detail works together.
It May Feel Like a Workout — Let’s Prepare for That
Most poses only last a few minutes before we relax, reset, and move into something new. I keep the session flowing so you’re never holding anything too long.
That said—yes, some clients have mentioned feeling a little sore the next day.
Posing can involve arching your back, engaging your core, and moving your body in ways you’re not used to.
To help prepare, I recommend light stretching and staying hydrated in the week or two leading up to your session—especially focusing on your back and hips.
I’ve been in these poses myself, and I know they can feel unfamiliar. That’s why I always encourage you to speak up if something feels uncomfortable or too intense. We will always adjust and find a way to create the same look in a way that works for your body.
Building Confidence Throughout Your Session
We don’t jump into the hardest poses right away.
We start simple—giving you time to relax and get comfortable in front of the camera.
And then, something begins to shift.
You start to trust the process.
You see how your body moves.
You realize you’re capable of more than you thought.
And that’s when your confidence really starts to come through.
You Are Not Supposed to Be a Model
You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to know angles.
You don’t need to be “photogenic.”
That’s not your role.
My job is to guide you, adjust you, and create an experience where you feel supported every step of the way—so you can simply show up and be present.
